Prizemoney Increases for Everest

Media Release - Wednesday November 8
Following the unbridled success of the inaugural The Everest, Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have announced prizemoney increases for 2018 and future years as follows.

- The Everest 2018 will be worth $13 million in total prizemoney
- The Everest 2019 will be worth $14 million in total prizemoney
- The Everest 2020 will be worth $15 million in total prizemoney

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have always committed to reinvest any incremental profits from The Everest back into the race. The success of The Everest in 2017 in attracting record betting turnover and commercial revenues has allowed this reinvestment to occur immediately.

"The Everest exceeded all expectations in its first year and has already established itself on the racing calendar with its own personality and charisma," said Racing NSW Chairman, Russell Balding AO.

"These prizemoney increases reward the loyalty and vision of the original slot holders who backed the concept," Mr Balding added.

"The Everest has captured the attention of the racing world but most importantly it brought a new and younger audience to Royal Randwick," said Australian Turf Club Chairman, Laurie Macri.

"We will continue to make this raceday a modern and dynamic event in the Sydney spring to attract even more first-time customers to racing," Mr Macri added.

A meeting of slot holders will be held later this month to receive their feedback and to discuss how the increased prizemoney will be distributed.

The Everest 2018 will be run on Saturday, 13th October 2018 at Royal Randwick with ticketing and hospitality on sale shortly.
