Grunt Filly Miraval Rose Captures Twilight Glow

Mark Smith - Saturday December 2

A heartbreaking second when nosed out in the Group III Thoroughbred Club Stakes, the Grunt filly Miraval Rose took luck out of the equation when going coast to coast in Saturday’s Listed Mercedes-Benz Berwick Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Jordan Childs for Grahame Begg, Miraval Rose opened up over the final two furlongs to defeat the previously unbeaten Street Boss (USA) filly Flying Fizz by two and a half lengths with the Zoustar filly Right To Party

With her stakes breakthrough, Miraval Rose advances her record to two wins and two seconds from four starts with earnings of $163,050.

“She’s a good filly. I reckon she’ll be a better filly when she gets a sit, but circumstances haven’t let that happen,” Begg said.

“she’s drawn very well, he took luck out of the equation, and I think you’ve got to do that on this sort of ground, but she’s a very progressive filly.

“It’s terrific they’ve all (owners) turned out and got the right result today.

“The first start in a race she ran on a soft 7 at Pakenham, it was 1200 metres first run, I thought to myself afterwards I might’ve asked her a little bit going to 1200 at her first start in a race but a bit of maturity, a bit of racing and a bit of seasoning behind her, she handled it well today.

“She’ll definitely have a bit of a break now, work things out a little bit, it makes it a bit tricky, but there are options all around the place. We’ll work it out.

"You never know, she might get a mile yet. She might be a Kewney filly or something like that, but we’ll work it out, we’ve got to look after her, make sure she comes through today well, and it was a great ride by Jordan and I’m very pleased for the stable.”

A half-sister to the Group II Moonee Valley Fillies Classic winner and Group 1 ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes runner-up Gypsy Diamond, Miraval Rose was a $250,000 purchase for Rohan Hughes/Graeme Begg Racing from the Yulong Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the fourth winner from five to race for the Zabeel mare Gypsy Tucker a half-sister to the dam of the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate and MRC Showdown Stakes winner Finance Tycoon.

Yulong purchased Gypsy Tucker, in foal to Snitzel, for $800,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2018, then signed the ticket for $1.3 million for her daughter Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt).

Gypsy Tucker has a 2-year-old sister to Miraval Rose. After not being covered in 2021, Gypsy Tucker foaled a Lucky Vega colt this spring and was covered by him again.

Miraval Rose is the second stakes-winner for Yulong Stud’s Grunt whose son Veight has started the season in style winning the Group III McNeil Stakes at Caulfield and was runner-up to Griff in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

Miraval Rose a $250,000 Magic Millions yearling

Wentwood Grange consigns a Written By colt out of Miraval Rose’s half-sister Gypsy Snitz to Karka (lot 116) in January while more distant relations come from Alma Vale Stud’s Ghaiyyath (IRE) colt out of Smooth Concern, a highlight of the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale (lot 112), and Parsons Creek consigns a Wootton Bassett (GB) filly out of Smooth Return’s Group III winning daughter Toorak Affair to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale (lot 1442).  Click here for the Family Search on Miraval Rose.
