Former Cambridge Stud Shuttler Stravinsky Dies In Japan

Mark Smith - Sunday November 26

Sad to learn of the passing the former Cambridge Stud shuttler Stravinsky (USA), who died on November 21 at the JBBA Shizunai Stallion station at the age of 27.

A post from Shigeki Yusa of the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association stated that Stravinsky passed away from the infirmities of old age: "We are truly saddened to lose him and are grateful for all the support from his fans over the years," Yusa posted on X.

Stravinsky was pensioned from stud duty in 2019.

The son of Nureyev won the 1999 July Cup and Nunthorpe Stakes for Aidan O’Brien and shuttled to Cambridge Stud from 2000 to 2012, missing the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Exported to Japan in 2008, Stravinsky (USA) sired 75 stakes-winners, which include the prolific WA-based stallion Oratorio.

His influence will live long through his daughters, who have produced 14 Group 1 winners to date, headed by Lankan Rupee, Tepin (USA), Mosheen, Rip Van Winkle (IRE), Russian Revolution, and Tivaci.
