Kobayashi Filly Mishani Aloha Takes Aim at Magic Millions 2yo Classic

Mark Smith - Sunday November 12

The Les Ross-trained filly Mishani Aloha will be set for the $3,000,000 Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast on January 13 after doing the right thing by the sponsors when breaking her maiden in the Kobayashi At Aquis Hcp (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Ridden by Ben Thompson, the confidently supported daughter of Kobayashi defeated the Headwater gelding Head Honch by half a length, with Mishani Suspect (Sun City) a length back in third.

A close-up fourth to the undefeated Cosmic Force filly Divine Force when making her debut at Eagle Farm on October 21, Mishani Aloha has banked just shy of $90,000 in her two starts.

A homebred for Mishani Enterprises, Mishani Aloha qualified for the Magic Millions as a $4,000 buyback at the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

With six of the eight starters, Less Ross conceded that the winner was somewhat of a surprise despite stating favourite.

Kobayashi second leading 2yo sire

“I thought a couple of the others had done more than she has, but the punters seemed to know, and the jockey was very confident,” Ross said.

“It’s great for Crooksy (owner Mike Crooks), and it was good for Aquis winning a race named for Kobayashi.

“She will go straight to the Millions. I think there have been nine 2-year-old races (in Brisbane), and we have won six of them, so hopefully we will have a couple there.”

Mishani Aloha is the first winner from two to race for the winning  Refuse To Bend mare Hawaiian Princess, a daughter of the Listed AJC Toy Show Hcp runner-up Aloha Charm.

A daughter of Marauding, Aloha Charm is a sister to Pontal Lass, winner of the Group 1 AJC Flight Stakes, Group II Magic Night Stakes, Group II Tea Rose Stakes, and placed in the Group 1 VRC Oaks, and Group 1 AJC Champagne Stakes.

With five 2-year-old winners, Kobayashi sits second to Yulong’s high-flying first-season sire Alabama Express on the Leading Australia 2YO Sires table by earnigns and is leading by winners!
