Frankel's Inspiral Launches Late in Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf

Mark Smith - Sunday November 5

The Frankel mare inspiral (GB) came with a barnstorming finish to deny Sea Siren's daughter Warm Heart (IRE) a third consecutive Group 1 in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita.

It did complete a third consecutive win at the elite level for the Cheveley Park homebred, who won her second consecutive Prix Jacques le Marois in August before dominating the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on October 7.

With the pace set by the Fairway Thoroughbreds-bred In Italian, Inspiral was in a tricky spot on the rails. Dettori extracted the daughter of Frankel out of a pocket at the point of the turn and powered to the line to defeat the 3-year-old Galileo filly Warm Heart by a neck.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Warm Heart won the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks in August and the Group 1 Prix Vermeille in September. The daughter of Galileo and MVRC Manikato Stakes, BRC Cup and BRC Doomben 10000 winner Sea Siren (Fastnet Rock) was one and a quarter lengths in front of third placed Moira (Ghostzapper)

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Inspiral advances her record to nine wins and two seconds from 13 starts.

According to Chris Richardson, Cheveley's managing director, Inspiral will likely remain in training next year.

"I was very concerned for the pace, but Frankie gave her a beautiful ride," Richardson said.

And John's done a magnificent job in getting the filly, who is quite highly-strung and always has been since she was a foal, to perform today. It's a huge accolade to Patricia Thompson and the Thompson family."

A fourth-generation Cheveley Park-bred, Inspiral is the best of five winners from as many to race for the Selkirk mare Starscope, who was runner-up in the Group 1 Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes and Group 1 The One Thousand Guineas.

Starscope foaled a full sister to Inspiral this year.
