Capitalist Gelding Wins Four on the Trot

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 30

Capitalist is proving a very good sire for Hong Kong and his most winning horse in the jurisdiction is progressive four year-old gelding Seasons Wit, who made it four wins straight when cruising to victory at Happy Valley on Sunday.

Resuming for his first run of the new season, the Jamie Richards trained Seasons Wit was sent out a short priced favourite for the Class 2 sprint over 1000m and gave Zac Purton an easy steer when scoring by three lengths in a slick 56.91 seconds.

With five wins and six placings from 12 starts, Seasons Wit is a real Mr Consistency!

“He’s done a really good job. He was a three-year-old last season and after a few runs he started to get the hang of it. Jamie was mindful to have him a little bit more ready for the start of this season because he took a couple of runs last season,” said Zac Purton.

“He’s matured nicely. Once he got the start right he found himself in the right spot and with no weight on his back he was able to do his job.”

Seasons Wit racked up a hat-trick of wins across his final three outings last season and has made a lucrative start to the new season earning HK$3.09 million for this victory, which included a HK$1.5 million ‘PP Bonus’.

“We’d targeted the race for a little while. Obviously there aren’t too many races for his rating at Happy Valley over 1000 metres. He’s had a good preparation and he looks like he’s improved over the summer,” Richards said.

Seasons Wit was a $340,000 Inglis Premier purchase.

A $340,000 Inglis Premier purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Northmore Thoroughbreds draft, Seasons Wit started his career in Australia with Anthony and Sam Freedman and did win at Morphettville as Eros before his sale to Hong Kong.

Seasons Wit is the best of three winners from Grand Gesture, a half-sister by Starspangledbanner to the dam of Group I winner Cool Aza Beel from the famed Tennessee family that has produced Group I winners such as Malaguerra, Aloha and Seabrook.

Grand Gesture has foaled this spring producing another colt by Capitalist.

A Champion 2YO that won both Golden Slipper and Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Capitalist has sired seven winners from 11 runners in Hong Kong.
