Record Breaking Stakes-Winner Sold by Newgate

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 28
Group III placed last season in the Kembla Classic, talented Snitzel mare Lubiton has soared to new heights this campaign winning the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong last month and then breaking the track record to win the Group III MVRC Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The Bjorn Baker trained mare had been set for this race following some good recent runs in Sydney and delivered for connections when powering to the lead early before surging away to win by a length and a quarter.

"The plan was to lead," said winning rider Blake Shinn.

"I rode her to her strengths and she was really dominant."

Lubiton clocked1:34.42 in winning the 1600 metre feature to break the previous track record held by Cabeza and her trainer will now look at raising the bar to Group I level with the VRC Myer Classic next Saturday an option.

"He (Blake Shinn) rode like she was the toughest and fittest horse in the race and she was," Baker said.

"It's a great result for Steve Gillard, who has been a great supporter of mine and she's a Sntizel mare that is now worth a lot of money."

Lubiton as a yearlingLubiton was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft and runs for Steve and Louise Gillard.

With five wins from 17 starts, Lubiton has already won over $300,000 and is the first foal and first winner for Rosa Stellata, a Zabeel daughter of Group I winner Camino Rose.

Bred by Bell View Park in partnership, she was a successful pinhook for Newgate, having been bought as a weanling for $150,000 from Bell View Park, who sold Rosa Stellata for $90,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale last year.

Her win brought up a stakes double for Snitzel, following an earlier success for three year-old gelding Eptimum in the Group III MVRC Red Anchor Stakes.
