Perfect Conditions on Day One of Breeze Ups

Day One of NZB’s 2023 Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups kicked off today at Te Rapa Racecourse with perfect weather and track conditions for the two-year-olds. 

172 expertly prepared two-year-olds breezed down the straight with perfect Soft 5 rated footing and fine weather conditions throughout the day.  

The average time of 10.80 was noted across the 89 heats, complimenting the Te Rapa track and how it held up throughout the day.  

KB Bloodstock presented the fastest lots of the day

Renowned horseman Kit Brooks of KB Bloodstock who presented the fastest lots of the day commented on the proceedings. 

“It was perfect. The sun was out, the track was fantastic and there was next to no wind.”  

Sophia Nolen from Lilywhites Lodge presented 24 horses to breeze up today and was delighted with the consistent conditions.  

“We have had beautiful conditions, and the track has been lovely.”

“The whole day has gone very smoothly, and we are looking forward to parading the horses on the farm in the coming weeks.” 

Well-known agent Chris Rutten was pleased with the quality presented at the Breeze Ups today. 

“I am impressed by what I have seen here today. There are some very well turned-out horses.” 

“I am looking at the balance and shape of the horses and can get a good insight into their attitude here and how they’re coping with the environment.” 

He recently celebrated the Karaka graduate Raf Attack (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) winning the Group Three Gloaming Stakes (1800m) who he purchased for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.  

Day One Highlights 

  • Track conditions were recorded as a Soft 5 and the weather was fine throughout the day. 

  • The fastest pair of the day was Heat 7 with Lot 25 (Ardrossan colt) and Lot 105 (Justify colt) on account of KB Bloodstock breezing up in 10.07 and 10.14 respectively. 

  • The second fastest pair was also on account of KB Bloodstock in Heat 1 with Lot 40 (Deep Field colt) and Lot 376 (Star Turn colt) who recorded a time of 10.28 and 10.24 respectively. 

  • Lot 175, a bay filly by Super Seth out of Haunui Farm’s stakes performer Perfect Fit, ran on her own in an impressive time of 10.29 for preparers and vendors Lilywhites Lodge. 

  • While Heat 68 of Pertab Racing’s in Lot 29 (Proisir filly) and Lot 181 (Niagara filly) breezed up in a time of 10.30 and 10.31 respectively. 
     

Day Two continues tomorrow at Te Rapa racecourse, commencing at 10am.  

NZB offers extended Breeze Up clips, including additional footage near the 600-metre mark to capture horses before they fully extend into their gallop. As per usual, horses will also have the last 200 meters of their work individually timed. 

Providing even more information for buyers, NZB will also be filming the mounting yard at Te Rapa, with all two-year-olds being paraded prior to their Breeze Up. 

The full Breeze Up clips and parade footage will be made available for viewing on NZB’s website by Friday 20 October, as well as being streamed on Trackside in New Zealand, plus Sky Racing and Racing.com Australia.
