First Winner for Profiteer – Inglis Millennium on the Radar

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 24

Fleet footed Capitalist colt Profiteer was a brilliant five length winner of the Inglis Millennium back in 2021 earning him a place on the Newgate Farm stallion roster and his first winner Star of Jamaica may be given the chance to follow in his footsteps.

Trained by Chris and Corey Munce, Star of Jamaica was a short priced favourite when finishing second on debut at Eagle Farm back in early December with the winner of that race Dream Roca, set to run later today in the Karaka Million.

Given a freshen up after that run with a recent trial win to tune him up, Star of Jamaica returned in the 1000m juvenile event at Sunshine Coast on Saturday with Ryan Maloney to ride.

The chunky chestnut took a while in the straight to warm to his task, but did his best work late, powering past his rivals to win by nearly two lengths suggesting a slightly longer trip will hold no fears.

Corey Munce confirmed after the race that the $2million Inglis Millennium (1100m) in Sydney in two weeks time was the immediate target for the talented colt.

Star of Jamaica was an $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

An $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Munce Racing from the Alma Vale Thoroughbreds draft, Star of Jamaica was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the Inglis Weanling Sale for just $12,000.

He is the second foal and first winner from Raziel (NZ), a winning Per Incanto (USA) mare from a modest female family featuring stakes-winners Champagne Needed and Lotzatow.

Star of Jamaica is the first winner for Profiteer, who has six entries for Inglis Classic.
