Expensive Filly a New G1 Winner for Frankel

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 14

The Group I Bet 365 Fillies Mile (1m) at Newmarket overnight for the two year-old fillies was taken out by Ylang Ylang, an expensive Frankel filly that was bought for 1.5million guineas at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 last year.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore for the Coolmore partners, Ylang Ylang bounced back from defeat at her past two starts to overhaul the favourite Shuwari (New Bay) and win by half a length.

“The lads usually like to start them in the Guineas, but looking at Ylang Ylang today she will have no problem getting the Oaks trip. Ryan gave her a brilliant ride as always. He was very calm on her and collected. She was a bit keen in the Moyglare as she made the running the first two times, but when her chance was gone Ryan looked after her,” said Aidan O’Brien.

“She then came back here for education and the way the race worked out anyone that dropped in, it was hard to get into the race, but Ryan was delighted with her and he said come back for this race.”

1.5million guinea purchase Ylang Ylang as a yearling.

Ylang Ylang has had three wins from five starts and was purchased by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm from the Newsells Park draft making her the highest priced filly by Frankel sold at Tattersalls October Book 1. She is the first foal of stakes-placed Shamardal mare Shambolic, a half-sister to Group I winners Viva Pataca and Laughing and her fourth dam is Circus Ring, whose descendants have enjoyed notable success in Australia and include Group I winners Serenade Rose and Trekking.

Ylang Ylang is the 33rd Group I winner for Frankel and is his third stakes-winner and second G1 winner from a daughter of Shamardal joining Australian dual G1 winner Converge. The nick runs at 76.5% winner to runner and 17.6% SW to runner.
