Tara Madgwick - Monday October 9

For commercial breeders that produce significant numbers of foals each year there are bound to be a few surprises here as horses you may have lost track of reappeared to make their mark at the richest event for off the track thoroughbreds in Australia.

Richard Johnston of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds has bred a lot of good horses over the years – think Mosheen and Driefontein - including his current superstar Think It Over, a multiple Group I winner of over $7million that runs in the $5million Group I ATC King Charles Stakes at Randwick this Saturday.

His Bylong Park brand was also to the fore at Equimillion on Aperta, a 14 year-old Testa Rossa gelding from Capto that won both the 65cm junior Showjumping and eventing for Dakota Robertson collecting $30,000 for his efforts!

Emirates Park were making news last weekend for breeding and selling $1.6million I Am Invincible colt Bodyguard, winner of the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial, but a horse they bred and sold back in 2009 was in action at Equimillion.

16 year-old Encosta de Lago gelding Mutamayez topped the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when selling for $1.8million, however quickly proved that racing was not his forte when he was retired after three unplaced starts.

Mutamayez was the top lot at Inglis Easter in 2009 for Emirates Park.

The good looks that helped him top Inglis Easter have given him a successful career in the show ring and he competed in the show horse section finishing fourth in the open show hunter class for Lesley Fitton.

Stuart Ramsey’s Turangga Farm have had so much success producing horses bred by his Ramsey Pastoral including Life Lessons, who won the Group II VRC Rose of Kingston Stakes last Saturday at Flemington.

For seven years, Ramsey stood the stallion Zizou at Turangga Farm and he is the sire of 13 year-old mare She’s Amazing, who dodged a career at stud to compete in the show ring after winning two minor races at the Gold Coast and Ballina.

She won the Amateur Show Horse ridden class and was also fourth in the led mare for Louise Refalo.
