Hellbent Mare Magic Time Wins G3 Nivison

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 7

Grahame Begg had Group success in Sydney during the autumn carnival with talented Hellbent filly Magic Time and she returned as a four year-old mare to win the $250,000 Group III ATC The Nision (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Sent out a short priced favourite at her second run back from a spell, Magic Time continued the great winning run for her ride Nash Rawiller when skipping clear to win by a length and a half.

Magic Time carries the colours of her breeder, John Muir's Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud, after failing to make her $150,000 reserve at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She was sent to be trained by Grahame Begg, who has had past success for John and Trish Muir with multiple Group I winning mare Secret Admirer.

"We took her to the Magic Millions sales, no one wanted to buy her. So I've had a wonderful arrangement with Grahame Begg over the years, gave her to Grahame and the rest is history. I was delighted with what she's done up to date,” said John Muir.

"She was well bred, her mother was a very good race mare. I thought she would've sold quite easily. But after the sale the box was empty and no one wanted to buy her. It happened with Secret Admirer (multiple G1 winner) too that I've had a great pleasure of racing."

Magic Time has the overall record of four wins from six starts with prizemoney topping $400,000 and connections are hoping to run in the $2million ATC The Invitation (1400m) on October 28 at Randwick.

She is the first foal of Group III winning Nicconi mare Time Awaits, whose two year-old colt by Dundeel was sold by Milburn Creek at Inglis Easter for $300,000 to Freedman Racing/Julian Blaxland.

Time Awaits has a yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn), but no foal this spring after missing to Wild Ruler.

Magic Time is the second stakes-winner this season for Hellbent, who is working through a full book at Yarraman Park at a fee of $38,500.
