The G1 Tatt’s Tiara during next year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival is the long-term goal for today’s Inglis Digital September (Late) sale-topper Boogie Dancer, who sold for “an incredible’’ $560,000.
Gilgai Farm’s Kelly Skillecorn this afternoon purchased the G2 winner - who was offered by Wylie Dalziel’s Dalziel Bloodstock - for Bi-Lo Bloodstock.
Skillecorn confirmed Boogie Dancer will have the primary goal of securing more black type on the track ahead of her breeding career in 2024.
“She’ll go to the paddock for six months now then be set for the Queensland carnival in May and June next year and all going right between now and then, that would culminate in the Tatt’s Tiara,’’ Skillecorn said.
“And then she’s off to Ole Kirk. Ultimately we bought her for Ole Kirk, a G1 win between now and then would just be the perfect finale for her.’’
Skillecorn admitted he had mixed feelings about the purchase, describing Boogie Dancer as “an absolute beauty’’ but “bloody hard to buy’’.
“It’s so hard to buy these good mares on Inglis Digital, they never, ever fall through the cracks, everyone finds the time to analyse them and they’re promoted so bloody well, they’re everywhere,’’ Skillecorn said.
“I can’t wait to get good mares and sell then online with Inglis Digital, it’s unbelievable. Nobody misses them.’’
Wylie Dalziel added: “It’s an incredible result, we’re very happy, it couldn’t have gone better.
“The bidding got really hot, especially late. It’s just great to have bought her initially at Inglis Premier and now sell her through Inglis Digital.
“Inglis has done a great job, we wanted her to be one of the highlights for the sale and she absolutely was. The marketing and promotion was amazing, James Price even went to Peter Moody’s property to inspect the mare so he could recommend her to clients, it was just really well executed all round.’’
The sale’s second-top lot was Monte Invincible, who was offered by Robert and Luke Price on behalf of a client.
She was purchased by Jackson Beirs – in conjunction with his parents Ted and Sandra of Glenbawn Stud alongside Alma Vale Thoroughbreds and Spartus Bloodstock – for $540,000.
Boogie Dancer and Monte Invincible become the 27th and 28th horses to sell for $500,000 or more on Inglis Digital since its inception.
Monte Invincible will visit Newgate-based stallion Stay Inside in coming weeks on her maiden cover.
“With my job at Newgate I get to see a lot of the stock and Stay Inside’s foals are outstanding so we wanted to buy some nice mares to go to him,’’ Beirs said.
“She cost plenty of money but she’s a beautiful filly with one of the most sought after pedigrees in the book and a family that’s hard to get into so we were prepared to have a good go at her.
“We find Inglis Digital fantastic, it’s easy to use, it’s accessible, we’ve been active for years and will be for many more to come.’’
The third-top lot today was Expat, who was offered on behalf of her owners and sold to Newgate Bloodstock for $320,000.
Both Monte Invincible and Expat were prepared for the sale by Dave Morrissey at Cannon Hayes Stud in the Hunter Valley.
Cannon Hayes also presented Jamaea ahead of her selling in the Inglis Digital July (Late) Sale for $1,025,000.
Newgate’s Henry Field said: “We’re delighted to be able to buy her, she’s a beautiful mare, a very talented G2 winner with great genetics being a granddaughter of Galileo and Dubawi.
“She’s straight off to our Inglis Easter graduate In The Congo, the exciting Golden Rose-winning first season stallion and we’re hugely excited by the mating.’’
The Inglis Digital September (Late) Sale grossed $3,591,000.
Entries for the October (Early) Sale are now open and will remain so until midnight next Wednesday (October 4).
The sale will begin Friday week, October 6 and close for bidding on Wednesday October 11.
