Global Glamour winds up Gai's big day at Caulfield

Ben Dorries - Saturday October 21

She didn't have a Caulfield Cup contender but it was still Gai's day as not many trainers can ever say they have saddled up three runners at a meeting without a single loser.

When Global Glamour showed she was a fighter to take out the Group II Tristarc Stakes (1400m), it gave the Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott training team a treble of winners from their three Caulfield starters.

Global Glamour's win, with the $4.20 favourite surging strongly to hold off Cool Passion ($21) by a short half head with Shillelagh ($14) another ¾ length back, rounded off a magic day for Waterhouse and Bott who had earlier winners with Our Crown Witness and Pinot.

Waterhouse was delighted with Global Glamour, who is on track for a tilt at the Group I Myer Classic, and she indicated a Royal Ascot trip next year could even be on the cards next year.

"She came down for the Myer Classic and she may go to the Matriarch," Waterhouse said.

"She'll only have two, maybe three runs and then she'll freshen up and go to Magic Millions and hopefully … where might we go overseas?"

Winning jockey Tim Clark, who rode his first winner at Caulfield, believes Global Glamour will be tough to beat in the Myer Classic.

"She's going to take a power of beating in the Myer (Classic) because I thought parading she had a few lengths of improvement so it's going to be exciting times in a couple of weeks," Clark said.

"Mentally she's developed a lot too, she used to be a bit flighty and she's really calmed down into a beautiful mare. She's thickened up and she's a proper horse now."

"It's my first win at Caulfield so it's a great thrill, especially on a big day like today. Hopefully it helps with more opportunities over the carnival."
