Third Murray Bridge Cup Win for Excites Zelady

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 20
Evergreen seven year old gelding Excites Zelady scored a historic third win in the Listed Murray Bridge Cup on Friday having won the race previously in 2014 and 2015.

Sent out at long odds following some indifferent recent form, the Chris Bieg trained son of Excites rediscovered his best form at his favourite track to win the 1600 metre feature by a long head.

The first horse in history to win the race three times, Excites Zelady has the overall record of nine wins from 55 starts with prizemoney in excess of $545,000

Comprende lights up the sale ringExcites Zelady was sold for $19,000 by Yarraman Park at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale to Ampulla Lodge, who re-offered the colt at the 2012 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale where he was purchased by his trainer for $27,000.

A half-brother to Group III winner Zelady's Night Out and Group III placed Comprende, Excites Zelady is one of eight winners from terrific producer Zelady, who died in 2015.

A daughter of I Am Invincible, Comprende was a star offering at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this year fetching $1,050,000, so Zelady may well make further impact as Comprende and her other daughters head to stud.
