Cornwall Park Open Range

Media Release - Thursday August 3

Offering one of the most diverse – and promising – rosters in Victoria, Cornwall Park Stud will stage its 2023 Open Day/Stallion Parade on Sunday 20 August.

This spring’s lineup features Boom Time (Flying Spur), Cliff’s Edge (Canford Cliffs), Danerich (Danehill), Inference (So You Think), Johannes Vermeer (Galileo) and Soul Patch (Shamus Award), while Wyndspelle (Iffraaj) is a highly exciting newcomer.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be getting Wyndspelle on board for this spring,” Cornwall Park principal, Peter Boyle, enthused.

“He was a winner and Group 1 runnerup at 2, a Group 2 Guineas winner at 3, Group 1 placed over here (in the Cantala Stakes) at 4, multiple Group 1 placed at 5 and winner of the Group 1 Captain Cook across the pond at 6.

“Aside from being a cracking type, he’s a son of Ifraaj who is rapidly emerging as one of the great influences on both sides of the equator. His son, Wootton Basset, is the ultimate rags to riches story with 35 stakes winners (standing at $93,500) while Turn Me Loose is among NZ’s very best sires.

“Wyndspelle originally stood across the Tasman where his first foals have just turned 2 and if they’re anything like dad, don’t be surprised if there’s already a couple on the sheet by Christmas.”

While Boyle is eager to show off Wyndspelle for the first time at the Open Day on Sunday 20 August, he’s likewise buoyed at the prospects for the well performed stablemates.

“Danerich has been a bloody marvel with winners from 900m to 3200m and runners like Lord of the Sky, Richie’s Vibe and co., while everyone remembers Udyta Clarke’s Rich Charm,” Boyle points out, “but the remainder of the team are virtually at the start of their stud careers and showing so much promise.

“Boom Time won a Caulfield Cup and is closely related to Magnus … Cliff’s Edge was a multiple Group 2 winner at 3 & 4 here in Victoria … Inference won the (Group 1) Randwick Guineas, which is really shaping up as a ‘sire making’ race … Johannes Vermeer is a Group 1 winning son of Galileo and no-one needs to explain how well he goes in this neck of the woods, or any neck of the woods for that matter … and Soul Patch won a (Group 2) Moonee Valley Vase AND ran third behind Alligator Blood in the Australian Guineas.”

Inference is a G1 winning son of So You Think, click for more info and a Hypo mating.

One of Victoria’s most historic and well appointed farms, Cornwall Park is now under the steering of Boyle – with many years of management experience in the Hunter Valley – along with partner, Lisa Gordon, founder of the national equine brand ePro and a freelance equine photographer.

“As hackneyed as it might sound, Lisa and I really do believe there is something for everyone at Cornwall Park,” Boyle summarises. “We have young, Group 1 performed stallions by a wide array of influential sires … they stand at very accessible price points (from $3,300 to $11,000) … and the farm itself offers every conceivable service, from walk ons to foaling down to agistment to racehorse spelling to sales prep.”

The Cornwall Park Open Day/Stallion Parade will be conducted over two sessions on Sunday 20 August – 10.30am and 2pm – and you can RSVP via email – bec@cornwallpark.com.au – or text/call Bec on 0409 195 405.
