Hellbent Metro Double

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 29

I Am Invincible might have hit 200 winners for the season on Saturday but his Group I winning son Hellbent put the finishing touches on a great season of his own when posting a two state metropolitan double in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens, three year-old gelding He’ll Rip could not have been more impressive when bolting clear to win the open three year-old event over 1600m by three and a half lengths.

He led around the corner for Blake Shinn and was never in danger, coasting home to take his overall record to three wins from nine starts with prizemoney topping $145,000.

Bred by China Horse Club, He’ll Rip was a $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft for Malua Bloodstock and is the best of three winners from Clear Ripples, a half-sister by Fastnet Rock to the dam of Group winners Head of State and Man From Uncle.

Hellbent made it a metro double when the Tony Gollan trained filly Blue Spinel won over 1200m as favourite at Eagle Farm.  She has won her past three starts earning nearly $100,000 and looks to have more wins to come.
