Russian Revolution 3YO Seals the Deal for Zac Lloyd

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 29

Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution has had an amazing season and is the leading Australian second crop sire by winners, earnings and stakes-winners and one of his most successful runners during the winter months has been super consistent three year-old gelding Insurrection.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Insurrection had won his past two starts at Randwick with Zac Lloyd in the saddle and he made it three on the trot when leading throughout to take the Benchmark 88 event over 1100m by more than a length.

His victory was the 100th win of the season for syndicators Darby Racing and also delivered the Champion Apprentice title for Zac Lloyd.

Michael Freedman was full of praise for Insurrection, who has the consistent overall record of five wins and seven placings from 16 starts with prizemoney topping $500,000.

“He’s every trainers dream this little horse,” said Freedman.

“He’s such a gutsy little horse and so easy to train. He just fronts up and to my mind has never ever run a bad race, he’s had a few genuine excuses with wet tracks, but is in a rich vein of form at the moment, so we’ll have to go home and have a think about where we go to from here.”

Insurrection was a $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Darby Racing.

A $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Ascot Park draft for Darby Racing / Will Johnson Bloodstock, Insurrection was bred by Bob Hannon and is the first winner for Marple Miss, a metro winning three-quarter sister to Cox Plate winning Group I sire Shamus Award.

Russian Reward will be fully booked at a fee of $88,000 this spring.
