Sires by Bloodline – Japan

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 9

With the prestigious JRHA Sale to be conducted on Monday and Tuesday putting Japanese thoroughbreds front and centre on the world stage we thought it might be interesting to take a look at the Japanese bred stallion options for this spring in Australasia.

They aren’t all direct male line descendants of Sunday Silence, but the majority are and all of them have Sunday Silence somewhere in their pedigree including the most expensive horse Maurice (Jpn), whose sire Screen Hero is from a daughter of Sunday Silence.

Maurice (Jpn) is leading the way for Japanese bred sires this spring.

Shuttling to Arrowfield, Maurice was a superstar on the track winning six G1 races at 1600 and 2000m and was Japanese Horse of the Year in 2015. He is also a Group I sire in Australia leaving Everest contender Mazu and triple Group I winning son Hitotsu, who will stand alongside him this spring.

Arrowfield are also rolling the dice with Champion Japanese 2YO Admire Mars (Jpn), a grand-son of Sunday Silence, whose first Australian bred yearlings will be offered next year

Brave Smash (Jpn), click for more info and test your mare with a Hypothetical mating.

A young stallion already making an impact is Brave Smash (Jpn), a two time G1 winning Australian sprinter that switches from Aquis to Yarraman Park and is the leading Australian first crop sire by winners.

Yulong Stud based sons of Lord Kanaloa, G1 Blue Diamond winner Tagaloa and Japanese import Diatronic, also have Sunday Silence on their dam side.

Satono Aladdin (Jpn) is an exciting horse for NZ.

Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand appear to be on a winner with Satono Aladdin (Jpn), whose results in New Zealand have clearly surpassed his efforts in Japan. With his oldest progeny  just three year-olds, he has already sired four stakes-winners headed by G1 Australian Oaks and NZ winner Pennyweka.
