Earthquakes Daughter Shaken Back in the Good Books

Mark Smith - Tuesday July 4

After earning the ire of stewards with a disinterested last when on debut at Randwick in February, the 2yo filly Shaken looked every inch the horse she is bred to be when opening her winning account over 1000m at Wyong on Tuesday.

Ridden by Zac Lloyd for James Cummings, the daughter of I Am Invincible enjoyed a day out when leading at every call to defeat the heavily backed Capitalist debutant Love And Light by two and three-quarter lengths with the Street Boss filly Rockabilly Rebel a further one and a quarter length back in third.

Shaken has built quite a rap sheet for such a young filly. It began with her first trial at Warwick Farm in January when hanging all the way and was ordered to trial again. She did that when pleasing stewards when second in a Hawkesbury trial behind her high-class stablemate Barber later that month.

Shaken went back in the bad book when all but uncontrollable at her career debut on the Kensington track at Randwick when eased out of the race by Jason Collett.

“She is bred in the purple and is probably the most athletic of Earthquake’s foals,” assistant trainer Darren Beadman said.

“She had a blemish at Randwick when she drew wide and hung out. She was immature and doing things wrong, but James was patient with her, and she has progressed nicely this preparation.

“I was a lovely ride by Zac and once she found the fence it gave her confidence and she won with a lot of authority.

“She would not look out of place on the catwalk.”

A half-sister to stakes-placed winner Namazu (Medaglia d’Oro), Shaken is the fourth winner from as many to race for the top-class Exceed And Excel mare Earthquake.

Following wins in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Group II Reisling Stakes, and Group III Blue Diamond Prelude, Earthquake started a short-priced favourite in the 2014 Golden Slipper, where she lost her unbeaten record to Moosfun on a heavy track.

Earthquake

Earthquake has a yearling filly by Too Darn Hot (GB) named Trembles and a weanling colt by Frosted (USA).

After seven consecutive foals, Earthquake missed to Brazen Beau last spring.

A homebred for Godolphin, Shaken is the 17th 2yo winner of the season for Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible.
