Telperion Filly Dolphin Skin Breaks Maiden in Taj Rossi Final

Mark Smith - Saturday July 1

Kiwi bred Dolphin Skin was well beaten by Steparty in her first two starts, so with the defection of the nominal favourite in Saturday's Listed  Schweppes Taj Rossi Final at Flemington, the Telperion filly found the perfect spot to break her maiden.

Ridden by New Zealand apprentice Wiremu Pinn for Leon and Troy Corstens, Dolphin Skin edged past the Dissident filly Line 'Em Up Loui by a half-head with the Zoustar filly Sunsource one and a quarter length back in third.

Troy Corstens revealed how he purchased the filly for $13,000 through Flemington Bloodstock from the Westbury Stud draft at the 2022 NZB Ready To Run Sale.

“I'm racing her with two mates, which makes it more special," Cotstens said.

t;I have to thank Dean Harvey, who gave me a list of about thirty-five horses at the Ready To Runs. They are usually all colts, but I was at Gerry Harvey's Westbury Stud, and a filly came out. I thought, why am I looking at a filly? But as soon as I saw her, I loved her.

"I rang Dean and said I'm not sure what it will cost, but I am bringing her home, and you can have half if you want. We went from there and bought her."

Dolphin Skin is the third winner from six to race for the 4-time winning General Nediym mare Tempo Manor.

A half-sister to Group III  Bletchingly Stakes winner Ready To Rip (More Than Ready) and stakes-placed winner Sir Lago (Encosta de Lago), Tempo Manor has a yearling and weanling sister to Dolphin Skin and was not covered last spring.

Dolphin Skin is the second stakes-winner for Kementari's half-brother Telperion (Street Cry)., who stood at Westbury Stud before he was exported to China.
