Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Friday June 30

Grebeni received no favours from the barrier draw in Saturday's $300,000 Group III Winx Guineas (1600m) at the Gold Coast, where he will attempt to stretch his winning sequence to four.

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained son of Ocean Park has been the epitome of consistency since finishing third on debut at Hawkesbury a year ago.

Making his stakes debut on Saturday, Grebeni has never finished further back than fourth in nine starts, winning four, the last three at Warwick Farm and Rosehill (x2).

Consigned by Tyreel Stud to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Grebeni left the ring unsold when bidding failed to reach his $100,000 reserve.

Bred by Dalanna Bloodstock and Tunstall Bloodstock, Grebeni is the third foal and second winner from as many to race for the Medaglia d'Oro (USA) mare Dubrovnik.

Grebeni fell short of his $100,000 reserve at the Magic Millions

A 3-time winner for Godolphin, Dubrovnik was offered on the 2021 Inglis February (Late) Online Sale with a Harry Angel (IRE) colt at foot, and it was no surprise when Gooree Park Stud picked up the tab for $25,000.

This is a top-class Gooree family.

Dubrovnik's lightly raced dam, The Fairest (Thunder Gulch), is a sister to Pasikatera and a three-quarter sister to Tempest Morn (Thunder Gulch), two of the best fillies to sport Gooree's red and black stripes.

Pasikatera won five stakes races highlighted by the Group III AJC Breeders' Classic. The daughter of Thunder Gulch died after producing three foals, the first of which was the Listed SAJC Manihi Classic winner Planet Voyage (Exceed And Excel).

Pasikatera's sister Flamboyance (Snowland) is the dam of the Group II BRC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Attention.

Tempest Morn takes her place among the toughest 3yo fillies of recent times.

The Gai Waterhouse trainee finished fourth at Kembla Grange on

January 6 2001, won at Rosehill on January 17, third Rosehill February 19, won Randwick February 25, fourth Gr 1 Canterbury Guineas March 17, won Gr 1 Ansett Stakes Rosehill April 7, second Gr 1 AJC Oaks Randwick April 21, won Gr 1 Austrasian Oaks Morphettville May 5, second Gr 1 SA Oaks Morphettville May 19, second Gr 1 Qld Oaks Eagle Farm June 2, and second Gr 1 Qld Derby June 9.

A half-sister to Listed AJC Brian Crowley Stakes and Listed QTC Sir Douglas Wadley Handicap Palm Beach Babe (Squill), Tempest Morn left little of note in seven foals; however, two of her daughters left stakes-winners.

Elahi (Giant’s Causeway) is the dam of the dam of the Group II ATC Skyline Stakes and Group III MRC Caulfield Classic winner Good Standing (Artie Schiller).

Ganda (Encosta de Lago) is the dam of the Group III ATC PJ Bell Handicap winner Tempt Me Not (Strategic Maneuver).

Dubrovnik's Harry Angel colt was a $13,000 purchase for Jason Chow when offered by Gooree Stud at the 2022 Inglis July (Late) Online Sale. He has been named Angel Kingdom and is in training with Ben and JD Hayes.

After foaling a Prized Icon colt last spring, Dubrovnik visited Yes Yes Yes.
