Inglis Classic Graduates Quinella Last G1

Media Release - Sunday June 25

The final G1 of the Australian season – today’s Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm for the fillies and mares – ended in a quinella for Inglis graduates as Palaisipan (So You Think) defeated Roots (Press Statement).

Palaisipan has been a wonderfully consistent mare for her connections – prior to today she was already a G2 winner and five-times Stakes placed, including finishing 3rd in last year’s Tatt’s Tiara.

Today’s win took Palaisipan’s career earnings to over $1.1m thanks to seven career wins and a further seven minor placings.

She also becomes the 82nd G1-winning Inglis graduate since 2018 and 38th in that time that could have been purchased for $100,000 or less.

Palaisipan is bred by Gooree Stud, who offered her at the 2019 Classic Yearling Sale.

Palaisipan was offered at Inglis Classic and passed in.

Gooree’s Jeanette Tioseco described today’s result as “wonderful’’ after what has been a challenging week for the farm, having lost champion Desert War on Thursday.

“I remember at the time it was a tough decision to offer her for sale but you sit back now and think ‘it’s OK to sell a winner, it’s OK to sell a Group 1 horse because we want people to know we sell Group 1 horses’,’’ Tioseco said.

“A lot of our horses make strong three and four-year-olds especially so it’s no surprise to see this mare really furnish as a five-year-old now and win her first Group 1.

“We obviously lost Desert War a couple of days ago so hopefully we can keep on making champions at Gooree.

“It’s always good to be able to watch the horses that we breed and sell go on to win races and win big races like today.’’

Winning trainer Chris Munce added: “You have no idea the emotions I’m feeling at the moment.

“It’s been the ride of a lifetime with [Palaisipan], she’s been all up and down the east coast and performed at the top level in every race she competed in. She’s been a wonderful mare and had a fantastic career.’’

Palaisipan races in the colours of her owner Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm, where she will likely end up as a broodmare in retirement.

The win of Palaisipan continues a strong run being enjoyed for the progeny of top Coolmore stallion So You Think, following the pair of recent G1 wins by his son and another Inglis graduate, Think About It.

Five of So You Think’s 10 Southern Hemisphere-bred G1 winners are Inglis graduates.

Today’s Tatt’s Tiara was also a big result for the connections of runner-up Roots – also a Classic Yearling Sale graduate – who now has a G1 placing on her page, adding significant value to her as a breeding prospect in time.
