Caulfield Cup early betting picture

Clinton Payne - Tuesday October 17

The all-important barrier draw saw some early winners and losers which has been reflected in betting markets for the $3 million Group I Caulfield Cup (2400m) on Saturday.

Final field race favourite, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Johannes Vermeer remains the $5.50 favourite but most fixed price operators tightened up their offerings slightly after the international raider drew barrier 2.

The other firmers in the race are the Hayes/Dabernig-trained Ventura Storm and Australian Derby winner Jon Snow while his stablemate Bonneval eased slightly along with the Darren Weir-trained Amelie's Star.

The biggest firmer since the field was declared on Tuesday morning has been Jon Snow. The Kiwi four-year-old firmed from $15 into $13 pre-barrier draw and has tightened another point since securing barrier 6.
