Newgate China Horse Club Partners Move on Ozzmosis

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 16

Trained by Bjorn Baker, talented Zoustar colt Ozzmosis has carried the Darby Racing colours to victory in each of his two starts to date for impressive wins that have attracted the interest of the Newgate and China Horse Club partners.

They have secured a stake in the colt, who is currently spelling in preparation for a spring campaign that could lead to the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes, a race won by his sire in 2013.

“Ozzmosis is a really exciting colt with a great pedigree,” said Henry Field.

“We know the colt’s trainer Bjorn Baker has a big opinion of the horse and our form expert, Dan O’Sullivan, also rates him very highly which influenced our decision.

“Obviously, we are hopeful Ozzmosis can go to the next level and be a Group I-winning colt as a three-year-old then eventually join our stallion roster at Newgate.”

Newgate will stand 14 stallions this spring, but do not have a son of Zoustar on the roster so Ozzmosis may be a wise investment.

A $250,000 Magic Millions purchase for Darby Racing  from the Sledmere Stud draft, Ozzmosis was bred by Chinar Horse Club and is the second winner from No More Tears (NZ), a Group III-winning Darci Brahma mare from the family of Group II winners Hips Don’t Lie, Splintex and this season’s star juvenile Learning to Fly.

Another close relation is unbeaten stakes-winner Acrobat, who covered 188 mares in his first season at Coolmore last spring, while Splintex has also been retired to stud and covered 118 mares at Darling View Thoroughbreds in Western Australia.
