Dee was set to ride the Darren Weir-trained Amelie's Star in the Caulfield Cup but connections decided to go with Williams after the leading jockey lost his Caulfield Cup mount on Tuesday morning.

Williams was preparing to ride Admire Deus but the former Japanese galloper broke down in a track gallop on the Warrnambool course proper.

CrownBet has Amelie's Star as a $7 chance in its early 'final field' market and she will carry 51kg in the $3 million event.

The mare scored at Group III level in The Bart Cummings at Flemington at her last run on October 7, which earned Amelie's Star a Melbourne Cup ballot exemption.

Dee recently recorded his maiden Group I win aboard the Lloyd Williams-owned Foundry in the Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Randwick.
