WA Champion Filly Contender for Ocean Park

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 15
Waikato Stud based stallion Ocean Park enjoyed success across the Tasman on Saturday when quality filly Ocean Jewel produced a scorching performance to win the A$100,000 Bunbury 3YO Classic (1000m) in Western Australia.

The Simon Miller-trained three-year-old stormed home from eighth on the turn to score by three-quarters of a length with Miller indicating he has big plans for Ocean Jewel, including a tilt at the Group III WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) on November 18.

"She's a miler," Miller said.

"She's just doing this on ability. The world's her oyster.

Ocean Park"I know how good she is but I sort of don't get too far ahead of myself with her.

"There were some good horses in this race and you see her pick them up wide and working and she's not even screwed down yet."

The victory took Ocean Jewel's record to three wins from just four starts.

She was an $80,000 Inglis Weanling purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Aquanita Racing and is from blue-blooded Group III placed Danehill (USA) mare Markisa, a half-sister to Group I winner Shower of Roses from Group I winner Marquise, a daughter of the legendary Eight Carat (GB).

Ocean Park was also represented by impressive three-year-old colt Ocean's Fourteen who scored over 1620 metres at Donald on Friday. – NZ Racing Desk
