Two on the Bounce for Lonhro's Dipsy Doodle

Mark Smith - Saturday April 29

The likeable Lonhro filly Dipsy Doodle continued on an upward curve with a fighting win over 1100m at Rosehill on Saturday.

Fired up by Dylan Gibbons to take up the running, Dispsy Doodle looked vulnerable at the 200m.

She had to dig deep to hold off the last start Hawkesbury winner Thunder Lips (Zoustar) by a long neck with a nose back to the impressive Trapeze Artist debutant Ducasse, a fast closing third.

A last-start Warwick Farm winner, Dipsy Doodle advances her record to two wins and a third from four starts with earnings of $150,300.

“Surprisingly, she latched on to the bridle mid-race and probably did too much in the middle stages, but her class, fitness and ability pulled her through,” assistant trainer Darren Beadman said.

“She has form against some very nice horses. She is a naturally feisty, strong-spirited filly, which she put into play over the final 100m and was strong to the line.”

Dipsy Doodle is a three-quarter sister to Group II ATC Surround Stakes winner Ghisoni (Lonhro) and a half to Group III VRC Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes winner Larkspur Run (Shamardal).

She is the second winner from three to race for the Exceed And Excel mare Aspen. A winner at Warwick Farm and Wyong, Aspen is a daughter of the Group II ATC Magic Night Stakes, Group II Surround Stakes, and Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner Portillo (Red Ransom).

Aspen’s 2020 Blue Point (IRE) colt died. Not covered in 2021, the daughter of Exceed And Excel visited the 4-time Group 1 winning son of Shamradal again last spring.
