So You Think Filly from Famous Family Wins Listed Princess

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 22

Mark Newnham might be scaling back getting ready for his move to Hong Kong, but he’s still focused on taking care of business here with progressive So You Think filly Street Gossip scoring a stylish victory in the $160,000 Listed BRC Princess Stakes (1615m) at Doomben.

A $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainer from the Riversdale Farm draft, Street Gossip has been making good progress this preparation and headed to Brisbane off a last start win at Wyong over 1600m.

Ridden by Tom Sherry, she settled well and powered to the lead after turning for home, going on to win by a length and a half over the late finishing Churchill (IRE) filly Madam Odette with race favourite Wolverine in third place.

“She’s been a filly that had really good ability from the start, but has been a bit tricky and Tom has been with her all the way through and it’s only this preparation that she’s started to settle and put it all together. She’s got a really good future ahead of her,” said Mark Newnham.

“She’s a wonderful filly to look at and that’s the So You Think breed. That’s why I’m very hopeful for her future as they tend to train on very well at four and five, so unfortunately I’ll miss that end of it, but it’s nice to get a good result for a great group of owners and we’ll enjoy today.”

Street Gossip was a $140,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Bred by Wall Street Thoroughbreds, Street Gossip has the overall record of three wins and a third from seven starts with prizemoney topping $160,000.

She is the first winner for metro winning Casino Prince mare Wahng Wah, a three-quarter sister to stakes-placed Warranty from the Celebria / Twyla branch of the famed Dancing Show (USA) family that has given us champion sire Redoute’s Choice and a slew of Group winners.

The Celebria branch of the family has been in the news of late thanks to blue-blood Dubawi mare In Italian, who recently won her third Group I race in North America.

Riversdale Farm sold the full sister to Street Gossip at Magic Millions this year for $150,000 to Lees Racing/Bahen Bloodstock and Wahng Wah has a weanling filly by Pierro to follow.

Street Gossip is the 51st stakes-winner for So You Think.
