Three on the Bounce for Kingman Filly Zardozi

Mark Smith - Saturday April 22

Godolphin's two-year-old Kingman (GB) filly Zardozi made it three wins from as many starts with a performance of a future stakes winner in the St Johns Park Bowling Club 2yo Clarendon Stakes (1400m) at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Ridden by Chad Schofield for James Cummings, Zardozi displayed a brilliant turn of foot when coming from third last on the home turn to put the race to bed in a matter of strides.

The daughter of Kingman defeated the strong finishing Justify (USA) colt Californian by a half-length with four-and-a-quarter lengths back to the Lope De Vega colt Rimbaud in third.

Assistant trainer Darren Beadman said the daughter of Kingman (GB) is very laid back in the stable but is all business on raceday.

"She had a lot of trials, about five, before racing as she was just not mature enough physically," Beadman said.

"She has started to grow into herself nicely. Her demeanour and attitude will take her to another level.

"She has the picket fence, three wins. She is out of an unraced Dubawi mare from a family that all run a trip, a mile and a quarter, a mile and a half. So with her attitude, how she falls to sleep early and quickens in the straight, will serve her well when she gets over a trip.

"She will tell us whether she goes to Brisbane, but I think she will be a strong candidate over a trip at the Spring Carnival.

Zardozi has a fan in Chad Schofield.

"That was another impressive win. She has raised the bar every time I have ridden her," Schofield said.

"She is the ultimate professional, push button to ride. We had the pace on, and she relaxed at the back.

"She coasted when she got to the front, but I like that when she felt a bit of pressure from that second horse, she went again.

"She is a petite little filly, but I love how she finishes off her races.  She powers through the line, and it will be interesting to see the heights she can go."

There is a lot to like in the pedigree of Zardozi. She is the first foal of the unraced Dubawi (IRE) mare Chanderi (GB), a 1,300,000gns purchase for Godolphin from the Highclere Stud draft at the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Chanderi (GB) is a daughter of the Dalakhani mare Silk Sari (GB), who won the Group II Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster by five lengths and was runner-up in the Group 1 British Champion Fillies/Mares Stakes at Ascot.

Silk Sari's half-sister Dreamlike (GB) (Oasis Dream) is the dam of Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young's Caulfield winner He's Our Bonneval (GB) (Siyouni).

Silk Sari (GB) is a granddaughter of the champion mare Gossamer (Sadler's Wells), a sister to former Widden Stud shuttler, Barathea (IRE).

Chanderi (GB) has a yearling Lonhro colt named Adinath and a weanling colt by Exceed and Excel. She was covered by Palace Pier (GB) last spring.

A G1 race since 1984, the Flight Stakes is a race won by special fillies - often the ones who go on to do extraordinary things on the track against all comers as older mares and that's as it should be as Hall Of Fame legend Flight exemplified that style of thoroughbred.
