Hungry Heart's Half-Sister Breaks The Ice

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 5

The three-year-old Snitzel filly Beautiful Heart showed she is more at home on a heavy track than her Group 1 winning half-sister Hungry Heart when breaking her maiden over 1600m at Hawkesbury on Wednesday.

In a race where Chris Waller had six of the eight runners, Beautiful Heart rallied under Joao Moreira to defeat her stubborn stablemate Genetic Freak (Shalaa) by a neck with two and a half lengths back to third-placed Whatadilemma (Epaulette).

It was the first win at start five for Beautiful Heart, who was second on debut behind the top-class Supido colt Buenos Noches at Canterbury.

Buenos Noches went on to win the Listed VRC Poseidon Stakes and placed in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and Group II Danehill Stakes when edged out by Giga Kick.

Beautiful Heart carries the bottle green, white checked sleeves, white cap silks of her breeder Yulong Stud after failing to make her $650,000 reserve at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

She is the third winner from as many to race for Harlech (GB).

A daughter of the excellent broodmare sire Pivotal, Harlech (GB) was a $60,000 gns purchase for Sheamus Mills Bloodstock / Yulong Investments from the Godolphin draft at Tattersalls in 2016. Put in foal to Frankel (GB) to southern hemisphere time, Harlech (GB) landed in Australia in January 2017.

Harlech (GB) is a half-sister to the Group II-placed Maamora (Dubawi) out of the stakes-winning Azamour mare Zoowraa, from the family of the Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes winner Risen Star.

The Frankel filly Hungry Heart won the Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks and Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes while contributing over $1.7 million to the Yulong coffers.

Hungry Heart was covered by Written Tycoon last spring. At the same time, her dam Harlech (GB) foaled a Written Tycoon colt after losing her Alabama Express filly shortly after birth the previous season.
