Kingman Filly Zardozi Goes Two for Two

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 5

A stakes race might be on the cards in the not-too-distant future for Godolphin's two-year-old Kingman (GB) filly Zardozi, who kept her record at a perfect two for two over 1300m at Hawkesbury on Wednesday.

Ridden by Chad Schofield for James Cummings, Zardozi settled off the speed before ploughing through the heavy 9 track to defeat the Pariah debutant Icebreaker by two and a quarter lengths with last start winner Californian (Justify) a shoer-neck back in third.

A debut winner at Gosford on March 16, Zardozi benefited by five trials before her debut, according to assistant trainer Darren Beadman.

"She is a real little professional," Beadman said.

"She was well rehearsed for her first start, where she sat at the back and zoomed along the rails. She came out of the race well.

"She is only a light filly but very game and professional. She is out of a Dubawi (IRE) mare, which is why I think she loves the ground.

Zardozi is the first foal of the unraced Chanderi (GB), a 1,300,000gns purchase for Godolphin from the Highclere Stud draft at the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Chanderi (GB) is a daughter of the Dalakhani mare Silk Sari (GB), who won the Group II Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster by five lengths and was runner-up in the Group 1 British Champion Fillies/Mares Stakes at Ascot.

Silk Sari's half-sister Dreamlike (GB) (Oasis Dream) is the dam of Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young's Caulfield winner He's Our Bonneval (GB) (Siyouni).

Silk Sari (GB) is a granddaughter of the champion mare Gossamer (Sadler's Wells), a sister to former Widden Stud shuttler, Barathea (IRE).

Chanderi (GB) has a yearling Lonhro colt named Adinath and a weanling colt by Exceed and Excel. She was covered by Palace Pier (GB) last spring.
