Amelia's Jewel Takes Up Where She Left Off

Mark Smith - Sunday April 2

Reappearing for the first time since capturing the Group 1 Northerly Stakes in November, the star Siyouni (FR) filly Amelia's Jewel took up where she left off with a dominant performance in Saturday's Group III Pkf - Roma Cup (1100m) at Ascot.

Pat Carberry has been on the Simon Miller trained filly in all eight starts for seven wins and a second, and he gave another polished display on 3yo filly.

Settled midfield, Amelia's Jewel powered to the line to defeat Red Can Man (Gingerbread Man) by a length with a one-and-a-quarter length back to Acromantula (Written Tycoon) in third.

Owner/breeder Peter Walsh said he has been having plenty of sleepless nights, but all roads lead to the inaugural running of the $4 million The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot on April 15.

"Simon said he thought she could win today although he has not put the screws on her," an emotional Walsh recounted.

"Let's hope she can bring her A game in two weeks.

"It’s a bit sad that (The Quokka) will probably be her last start in WA.”

Amelia’s Jewel has banked $1,777,700 from her seven wins and a second from eight starts.

A daughter of champion French stallion Siyouni (FR), Amelia’s Jewel is the first foal of the stakes placed Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina (IRE), was a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale.

Walsh sent Bumbasina to the Haras de Bonneval stallion to be mated to southern hemisphere time.

Bumbasina (IRE) is a half-sister to Group II winner Epona Plays (Australia) and Group III winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany). She has a 2yo colt by Merchant Navy, which topped Magic Millions Perth Book 2, selling for $160,000. He has been named True Heroes and is in training with Sean and Jake Casey.

Bumbasina’s yearling colt by Blue Point (IRE) was a $900,000 purchase for Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Annabel Neasham Racing Pty Ltd from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in January.

After missing in 2021, Bumbasina (IRE) boarded the plane to France last May for another date with Siyouni (FR), again to southern hemisphere time.
