Winning Double for Gold Standard

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 29

Stakes-placed at two, promising Gold Standard filly Golden Queen shook off maiden status with a determined win on heavy ground at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, while Pinchbeck bolted in at Balaklava to make it a winning double for his sire.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Golden Queen raced forward and was ready to fire at her second run back from a spell scoring by half a length for Tim Clark  as a short priced favourite.

“She’s had some great form behind some talented horses that have gone on and competed at the top level so the fact she has now been able to break through off some good performances was encouraging to see,” said Adrian Bott.

Golden Queen was notably second to In Secret in the Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at Scone and now has the overall record of one win and five placings from seven starts with prizemoney just shy of $100,000.

Golden Queen is a half-brother to Group III winner Roy Had Enough from unraced Queens Plaza, a half-sister by Elusive Quality (USA) to Group III winner Zingam from Champion 3YO Filly Danendri with another Champion 3YO Filly Faint Perfume also on the page.

Gold Standard covered 124 mares last spring at Widden Stud Victoria.

A Group II winning son of Sebring, Gold Standard shot to fame producing Group I winning filly Sheeza Belter in his first modest crop and got a good commercial opportunity last spring when transferred to Widden Stud Victoria following the sale of his previous home Spendthrift.

Gold Standard covered his biggest book of 124 mares at a fee of $17,600 up from his previous fee of $5,500.

Gold Standard has sired eight winners from 18 runners from his first two small crops with Sheeza Belter and Golden Queen joined by Gage Roads to give him three stakes performers.
