5.4million Guineas Purchase Wins Randwick Trial

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 21

Superstar European mare Alcohol Free, who was bought by Yulong at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale last year for 5.4million guineas, stepped out at the Randwick barrier trials on Tuesday morning.

Alcohol Free became the second highest price horse ever sold at a European auction when sold last year for 5.4million guineas

Now in the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and ridden by James McDonald, Alcohol Free jumped well and travelled on the bridle all the way back in the field before extending down the running to surge away and win the 1200m heat by a couple of lengths.

It was the first hit out in Australia for Alcohol Free, who is a four time Group I winner in the UK, two of those wins at 6f and two at a mile, so she’s not only top class, but also versatile.

Alcohol Free holds entries for several races at The Championships including the Group I ATC TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and Queen of the Turf Stakes (1600m).

Alcohol Free is the best performer for Scat Daddy’s brilliant sire son No Nay Never and Gai and Adrian have had some success with this sireline having trained Scat Daddy’s imported daughter Con Te Partiro (USA) to Group I wins in the Coolmore Classic and Coolmore Legacy (Queen of the Turf).
