Not A Single Doubt Makes a Phenomenal Start to the Day

Mark Smith - Saturday October 14

What an incredible start to a day of champagne racing for Arrowfield Stud's Not A Single Doubt.

Following the win of Shadwell Stud's Listed MRC Inglis Debutants Stakes a Caulfield and Sun Bloodstock's debutant Legend of Condor in the ATC Victory Vein Plate at Randwick, the Clarry Conners-trained filly Torvill opened her stakes account in the Listed ATC Reginald Allen Handicap at Randwick moments before the Tony McEvoy-trained Cool Passion in the Group III Cape Grim Beef Steaks at Caulfield.

Three-year-old filly Torvill broke her maiden at Wyong thee starts back at what was her fifth start.

A half-sister to the stakes-placed Bolero King, Torvill is the fifth foal of the Randwick winning Iglesia mare Bolero Queen whose dam Dancenza (Danger's Hour) is a half-sister to the slick sprinter Cangondre whose four Group II wins included two runnings of the AJC Challenge Stakes.

Bolero Queen has not had a live foal since Torvill.

She was not covered in 2015 and her foal by Benfica died after birth.

Not A Single Doubt did not have to wait long for his fourth winner and third stakes winner on the day when Cool Passion powered home under Luke Currie in the Group III Cape Grim Beef Steaks at Caulfield.

Racing in the colours of Team McDonnell, the former WA trained mare advances her record to 9 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $325,975.

"I'm still learning about her," said winning trainer Tony McEvoy.

"She's a good quality mare and has a great record at 1200 metres.

"Her two starts for me have been luckless. To come here today, back against mares, to get a black-type win for a good mare like this means everything to the owners.

"She stands up with a lot of good horses I've had over time.  She is a winner and has a great culture, a great attitude and I'm a fan of hers.

A half-sister to the Listed winner Havana Wind (Spinning World), Cool Passion is one of four winners out of the lightly raced Mr C mare Hiavanna a half-sister to Group III winner and Group I placed Headstrong (Archregent).

Pensioned in 2015, Hiavanna's final foal is the unraced Congrats colt Loads Of Dreams.

With three new stakes winners, Not A Single Doubt takes his stakes tally to 47.
