Mark Smith - Monday March 13

Trainer Dan Morton captured the two features at Ascot on Sunday with Another Chino opening his stakes account in the Listed Schweppes JC Roberts Stakes after She’s Fit ran away with the Listed Natasha Stakes.

A lightly raced son of Maschino, Another Chino finished powerfully under Brad Parnham to collar the game Rich Enuff gelding Demolish in the closing stages to win by a neck. The Dundeel gelding Axeman's Jazz was a neck back in third.

It was the third win in six starts for WA Derby hopeful and Morton believes he will only improve when distances stretch out.

“I feel like this horse is a proper stayer in the making and the (strong pace) played into his assets,” Morton said.
A homebred for Jimmy Anderson, Another Chino carries the same pink with grey shamrock silks as his dam Apheta, who won one and placed in four of her 16 starts.

From the first Australian crop by Galileo (IRE), Apheta is a daughter of the Group II Western Australian Oaks runner-up and Group 1 WATC Derby third, Storm Fille (Thunder Gulch).

A half-sister to stakes-placed Storm Burst (Danehill Dancer), Apheta died in 2020 and Another Chino is her final foal. He is the best of three winners from four to race for Apheta.

Another Chino is the 6th stakes winner for Alwyn Park Stud's Encosta de Lago stallion Maschino, which covered 101 mares last spring at a fee of $9,900.
