Aussie Winners in South Africa

Two Australian bred three year-olds opened their account at Vaal in South Africa on Thursday with Yakeen and Huyssteen saluting.

Yakeen as a yearlingTrained by Mike de Kock for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, three year-old Teofilo (IRE) colt Yakeen scored a stylish length and a half win on debut beating older horses over 1400 metres.

A $160,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Yarran Thoroughbreds draft for Form Bloodstock, Yakeen is the second winner from Reine, an unraced half-sister by Royal Academy (USA) to Group I winner and sire Nadeem from dual Group I winner Candide.

The next race, another 1400 metre maiden, went the way of Huyssteen, a Hard Spun (USA) gelding from the Lucky Houdalakis stable that scored by half a length at his second start.

A $45,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for James Goodman from the Maluka Thoroughbreds draft, Huyssteen is the second winner for Redoute's Choice mare Renaka, who comes from a US Black Type family.
