Fireburn's Half-Brother Kintyre Break Maiden

Mark Smith - Friday March 3

A half-brother to Golden Slipper winner Fireburn, Kintyre had a bit to live up to and finally got the maiden out of the way at start four.

Ridden by Tyler Schiller for Gary Portelli, the 2yo son of Hallowed Crown staged a length of the straight duel with Godolphin’s $380,000 Zoustar filly Inhibitions in the Bella Group Services Paul Perry Handicap (1300m) at Newcastle on Friday.

Inhibitions looked to have beaten off Kintyre in the final 100m before the Hallowed Crown colt rallied to win by a short-head.

The heavily backed Savabeel colt Wymark was a three-quarter length back in third.

Bred by Laurel Oak Bloodstock and Kerry Tibbey’s Goodwood Farm, Kintyre races for a syndicate headed by Laurel Oak.

The son of Twin Hills Stud's Hallowed Crown is the second winner from as many to race for the Think Big Stud-bred, So You Think mare Mull Over.

Purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock P/L (FBAA) for $22,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Mull Over won a 1600m maiden at Newcastle from 11 starts.

A granddaughter of the top-class mare Danarani, Mull Over does not have a yearling this season.

The daughter of so You Think foaled a Pierata colt last spring and was covered by Fireburn’s sire Rebel Dane at Widden Stud.
