The Inevitable Makes It Six on the Bounce

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 22

The Inevitable continues to bully his opponents into submission in Tasmania, with just five willing to take him on in the Listed Steve's Liquor Hellova Street Stakes (1600m) at Launceston on Wednesday.

Ridden by David Pires for Scott Brunton, the 7yo son of Dundeel was made to work for his sixth win on the bounce.

With Pires niggling at him before the turn, The Inevitable was doing his best work over the final 200m to defeat Swoop Doh (Husson) by one and a half lengths with Alpine Wolf (Alpine Eagle) a neck back in third.

With his seventh stakes success, The Inevitable advances his record to 16 wins, two seconds and a third from 29 starts with earnings of $1,269,775.

It was an emotional moment for Brunton, who trained Hellova Street to three wins in the race previously known as the Mowbray Stakes.

“To have this race named in his honour is something that I will treasure,” Brunton said.

“He was brilliant today, They ran home in 34s, so he has probably run home in 33s over a trip he is nearly ready for.

“That will top him off nicely, so if he gets to the All-Star Mile, he will shake the life out of it.

“I am under no illusions the bar goes up a long way. It was not ideal the ten-day back-up, but the track is in good order, and I was pleased to get the result.”

Bred by Tori Park Stud The Inevitable was a $90,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for David Brunton from the Cornerstone Stud draft.

He is a half-brother to Group III winner Blahnik and stakes-winner Elysees and is the 14th and final foal of the stakes-winning King's High mare Gift Bouquet, who had 11 winners from 14 to race.
