One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 14

The two year-old half-brother to Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile opened his account at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

A homebred for Godolphin trained by James Cummings, Stanislaus had shown good talent at the trials and was sixth at his only run behind Barber at Randwick when making his debut back in October.

The Exceed and Excel colt showed good speed to race up on the pace and although drifting out in the straight was strong to the line for Brenton Avdulla  to win the 1000m dash by a length.

“He’s a half-brother to Golden Mile, but his dam Calaverite was very sharp and he’s by Exceed and Excel so he’s going to be more of a sprinter,” said stable representative Darren Beadman.

“He showed good speed and good acceleration today so onwards an upwards.”

Stanislaus holds an entry for the Golden Slipper and is bred on the exact same Exceed and Excel x Lonhro cross as his stablemate Barber, who is favourite for the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes after winning the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude last Saturday.

Stanislaus is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Calaverite, a half-sister by Lonhro to Group II winners Gold Fever and Gold Rush.

Calaverite was a sensational purchase from the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year and now the dam of Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile.

Calaverite was on-sold by Godolphin last year at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $310,000 to Merricks Station/Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock/Group 1 Bloodstock when Golden Mile appeared on the page as a maiden winner at Ballarat.

Calaverite produced a filly by Street Boss (USA) for her new owners last spring and was then covered by Snitzel.

She has a yearling colt by Microphone still with Godolphin called Kennerite.
