The Inevitable Makes a Case for All-Star Mile

Mark Smith - Sunday February 12

There was an air of inevitability about the result of the Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m) at Hobart on Sunday as the odds-on favourite The Inevitable stretched his winning sequence to five.

Ridden by David Pires for Scott Brunton, the 7yo son of Dundeel came with a sweeping run from midfield to put the race to bed at the 250m. He defeated Alpine Wolf (Alpine Eagle) by two and a quarter lengths, with a neck back to First Accused (Turffontein), who placed behind his top-class stablemate for the fifth consecutive time.

The Inevitable advances his record to 14 wins, two seconds, and a third from 27 starts with earnings of $1,119,775.

Stable representative Tegan Keyes and rider David Pires urged all Tasmanians to get behind The Inevitable for a spot in the $5,000,000 All-Star Mile at Moonee Valley on March 18.

“He was incredible today,” an emotional Teagan Keyes said.

“We need people to vote for him. He cain’t do much more than he has.”

Pires said the race played out perfectly for the pint-sized gelding.

“He’s a freak, a little pocket rocket,” Pires said.

“He really put paid to them today. The track was nice and soft, which was really good for his feet.

“He is the real deal and deserves to be in the All-Star Mile, so we need to start voting for him.

“When we straightened up, I pulled him wide, and he exploded. He is a little horse with a massive stride and really covers the ground when you ask him to go.”

Bred by Tori Park Stud The Inevitable was a $90,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for David Brunton from the Cornerstone Stud draft.

He is a half-brother to Group III winner Blahnik and stakes-winner Elysees and is the 14th and final foal of the stakes-winning King's High mare Gift Bouquet, with 11 winners from 14 to race.
