Stakes Potential for Zoustar Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 11

Zoustar filly Kazou was a short priced favourite when resuming from a spell at Canterbury on Friday night, but things went pear shaped when she missed the start and found herself cluttered up back in the field and it was another Zoustar filly that got the cash.

The John Thompson trained Ithadtobezou broke her maiden at Canterbury last month when returning from a spell and took a big step forward here to post her second win from six starts.

She surged  to the line for Kerrin McEvoy to win the Benchmark 64 event over 1200m by a length over talented Lord Kanaloa colt Citizenship with the luckless Kazou in third place.

“That was a super win and a great ride by Kerrin,” said John Thompson.

“After the favourite missed the start anything can happen and our filly won nicely. Looking at this race before hand you always thought the winner that came out of it would be stakes class, so those are the sort of races we’ll be looking at.”

Ithadtobezou was bred and sold by Kia Ora Stud.

A $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Cambridge Stud from the Kia Ora Stud draft, Ithadtobezou is the second winner from Group II placed Lonhro mare Define, a daughter of Group I STC Canterbury Guineas winner Fine Society.

Kia Ora Stud will offer the yearling half-sister by Microphone to Ithadtobezou at Inglis Premier as Lot 367.
