Boulder City on the Rise

Media Release - Friday February 10

The burgeoning career of immaculately bred Boulder City has received a major boost with the recent Moonee Valley win from Pat Carey’s exciting 3YO Cobblestone Way.

The first crop son of Riverbank Farm’s Boulder City ran a blinder at the Valley – “after doing it the hard way” – to notch up his initial victory after promising seconds at Cranbourne on debut (“should have won”) and in the Future Stars series at Pakenham.

“Cobblestone Way is open to a lot of improvement as it’s only his first prep,” Carey enthused. “He’s raced by Steve Watkins who bred the horse as well and Steve has been a great client over the years. Looks like he’s got another good one with Cobblestone Way.”

Although Cobblestone Way is the only Boulder City in Carey’s stable, the trainer is familiar with the stallion.

“He (Boulder City) appears to get horses with a lot of scope and has already had some good winners from only a handful of runners.”

Having completed his fifth season at Riverbank Farm last spring, Boulder City’s oldest are 3YOs and, aside from Cobblestone Way, they include the Singapore winner & Melbourne placed Pacific Star, Sanaa, debut winner Tomboulder etc.

Unfortunately, Boulder City was unraced due to a suspensory injury but a great indication of his athleticism was his yearling sale price of $2.3 million. By the Champion Sire and sire-of-sires in Snitzel, Boulder City is a half brother to racing immortal Winx.

“It’s a shame he never got to race, but to be honest, if he’d run and won there’s no way the horse would be standing at a fee of just $5,500,” Riverbank Farm’s Russell Osborne points out. “He’s got great fertility and like Pat (Carey) said, they’ve got a great deal of scope about them.

“I reckon once we get a few more on the track you’ll be seeing a lot of results like Cobblestone Way produced at the Valley.”
