Plenty to Like About Boulder City's Cobblestone Way

Mark Smith - Friday February 3

Winx's half-brother Boulder City has a progressive type in the three-year-old gelding Cobblestone Way, who broke his maiden over 1200m at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Ridden by Blaike McDougall for Pat Carey, Cobblestone Way was obliged to race three wide without cover the trip. Showing a deal of courage, the 3yo son of Boulder City was strong to the line in defeating the Divine Prophet, gelding The Swiooper by a half-length with the I Am Invincible colt Graysong a head back in third.

Cobblestone Way deserved the breakthrough after finishing second at his first two starts at Pakenham and Cranbourne.

"We nominated for last night (at Pakenham) but thought this might be more suitable," Pat Carey said.

"He is a very fit horse, which was evident in the run to the line.

'Much credit to the team at Wallareen, and very grateful for the support of Steve Watkins, who gave us this horse to train.

"This is his first preparation, and he is deep into his prep. He is an athletic horse with plenty of energy, so we will see what the future holds for him."

A three-time winner in 15 starts, including two at Canterbury, Cartoon Character is a sister to stakes-placed D'Great Conqueror, out of the stakes-winner Aragonce (Lake Coniston).

Cartoon Character has a 2yo brother to Cobblestone Way but has not been covered for the last two seasons.

Cobblestone Way comes from the first crop of 62 foals for Riverbank Farm's Boulder City.

A $2,300,000 son of Snitzel, Boulder City, was unraced due to a suspensory injury.

The half-brother to world champion Winx stands at Russell and Caroline Osborne's picturesque Riverbank Farm, Benalla, for a fee of $5,500.
