One to Watch – Stony Creek

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 31

A few weeks ago we published a story about the growing number of commercial yearlings from daughters of Sepoy and the One to Watch on Monday is a filly bred this way.

Trained by Phillip Stokes, three year-old Lonhro filly Snow Falcon was a short priced favourite for the 1100m maiden at Stony Creek on Tuesday and had a lap on her rivals winning by more than five lengths.

Unplaced at her only two previous runs last year in April and September, Snow Falcon gave the indication in a recent barrier trial win at Stony Creek that things were going to be different this year and punters were duly rewarded.

Snow Falcon was bred and retained to race by South Australian owner breeders Trevor and Beth Robertson and is the second foal and second winner from Snow Surrender, a placed half-sister by Sepoy to stakes-winner Adelong.

The Robertson’s purchased Snow Surrender from Inglis Easter in 2015 for $270,000 and she came with a big pedigree as her dam Snowgums is a daughter of blue hen Snowdrift (Fr), the dam of Group I winner Snowland, stakes-winning sire Snippetson and Group II winner Portillo, the dam of Group II winner Ghisoni, who is also by Lonhro.

The family has several current stakes horses performing including Group III winner Larkspur Run and Group placed Renosu and Magic Carpet.

Mill Park will offer the current yearling from Snow Surrender on behalf of the Robertson’s at Inglis Premier as Lot 147 and she is by Russian Revolution, who is fresh off the back of siring two new juvenile stakes-winners last week in Red Resistance and The Instructor.

Snow Surrender is being given every chance to succeed and produced a filly by Toronado (IRE) last spring before being covered by Lonhro again.
