Four On the Bounce for Jigsaw

Mark Smith - Saturday January 28

After jumping a step slowly, Jigsaw took up his favoured position at the head of affairs in Saturday’s $350,000 Group II Ma Services Group Australia Stakes (1200m), and he did not look back.

Ridden by Daniel Moor for Cindy Alderson, the 4yo son of Manhattan Rain was there to be beaten on the turn, but he stayed on strongly to make it four wins in succession. He defeated Turaath (GB) (Oasis Dream) by two and a half lengths, with Calypso Reign (Barbados) a further one and a half lengths back in third.

After oping his campaign with a win at Cranbourne, Jigsaw reeled off wins in the Listed Doveton stakes (1000m) at Caulfield and the Listed Christmas Stakes at Sandown.

The Lynn Alderson homebred advances his record to eight ins, a second, and two thirds from 19 starts, with earnings of $849,500.

“I’m incredibly proud of the horse. It’s a very special win for the team,” Cindy Alderson said.

“Four in a row is a phenomenal effort. He is racing so well. He is relaxing and switching off and was still strong to the line today, he wasn’t lying down

“He has gotten very confident and believes in himself, believes he is a good horse and is racing like one.

“We will consider the Oakleigh Plate, he was very strong today, but there are some nice options coming up, including the William Reid over 1200m, and now that he has proven himself around the Valley, we will give that some consideration.”

A half-brother to The Listed Tasmanian Oaks runner-up Queen Adele (Adelaide), Jigsaw is the best of three winners from as many to race for the winning Lonhro mare Demandz, a daughter of the stakes-winning Commands mare Loaded Command.

Demandz has a yearling filly by Foxwedge and was covered by Blue Point (IRE) last spring.

Manhattan Rain stood his first season at Eddie Rigg’s Geisel Park Stud last spring, covering 65 mares at a fee of $8,800.
