Jigsaw Makes All in Hareeba Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday April 22

The flying Manhattan Rain gelding Jigsaw was back on his pedestal in Saturday’s $200,000 Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.

The Cindy Alderson-trained gelding had his four-race winning streak snapped in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley at his most recent start.

Daniel Moor took no prisoners on Jigsaw, leading the field through honest fractions. He showed no signs of stopping to defeat The Inferno (Holy Roman Emperor) by two lengths with Not An Option (Not A Single Doubt) a short-half-head back in third.

With his fourth stakes success Jigsaw advances his record to nine wins, a second, and two thirds from 21 starts, with earnings of $970,250

Cindy Alderson said Jigsaw had an easy time of it since the William Reid.

“We had four weeks up our sleeve. He spent the first week down at the beach, then a couple of gallops and just kept him happy,” Alderson said.

“He was dominant again today with a big weight on his back.

“Daniel has a great understanding of the horse. He’s got to be fairly bold to ride him the way he rides him, but he’s got great confidence in him.

“He’ll go out now. It was always the intention to go out after this race. He’ll have nearly two or three months off. It worked well for him last time, and we’ll see where he fits in the spring. I don’t think he’s quite at the top level, but he might pinch one somewhere.”

A half-brother to The Listed Tasmanian Oaks runner-up Queen Adele (Adelaide), Jigsaw is the best of three winners from as many to race for the winning Lonhro mare Demandz, a daughter of the stakes-winning Commands mare Loaded Command.

Demandz has a yearling filly by Foxwedge and was covered by Blue Point (IRE) last spring.
