Russian Colt Wins Blue Diamond Preview

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 26

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are fans of young sire Russian Revolution, whose two year-old son The Instructor made it two wins as many starts when taking out the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Sandown on Australia Day.

The Instructor was an easy debut winner at Pakenham on January 12 and had valuable race experience and fitness on his side when stepping out in his first Black Type assignment as favourite.

Well ridden by Jordan Childs he surged forward to take the lead and travelled smoothly all the way before giving a good kick in the straight. The Instructor was strong to the line beating Godolphin’s Corniche (Fastnet Rock) by a length with Written By colt Scorsese doing a great job on debut to grab third.

“He has not put a foot wrong since the moment he walked into our stables and is all professional and he’s a joy, he really is,” said Gai Waterhouse.

“He didn’t fly the gates, but he jumped well and then Jordan was smart enough to just push him that bit and once he got rolling there was no catching him.

“He’s a Russian Revolution and what a fabulous sire this horse is shaping to be.”

A $230,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase for First Light Racing/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing from the Lyndhurst Stud draft, The Instructor is the second winner for Denman mare Right of Way and has won over $140,000 from his first two starts.

The Instructor is the fourth stakes-winner for Newgate Farm's Russian Revolution, and interestingly three of them are trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with this colt joining Rise of the Masses and Russian Roni.

Waterhouse and Bott will saddle two more promising juveniles by Russian Revolution in stakes races at Rosehill on Saturday with Red Resistance to run in the Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes and Perfect Proposal to start in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes.
