Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 8

Three interesting heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Thursday morning were won by Gimcrack winner Platinum Jubilee, a Capitalist filly we highlighted last month and a smart colt by Trapeze Artist.

Things might be about to get very interesting for Widden Stud’s first season sire Trapeze Artist, who will have two runners in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery on Saturday in last start winner Disneck and trial star Facile, who has been installed favourite for her debut.

Trapeze Artist has had plenty of trial action of late and the Hawkes Racing trained colt Groundrush looked to have good potential winning his trial by nearly two lengths held together. It was his second outing and he showed good improvement from the first time we saw him back in October.

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase, Groundrush is a half-brother to four winners from blueblood import Grande Annee (USA), a daughter of Aussie Group I winner Bollinger. Grande Annee is a half-sister to Group winners Friesan Fire and Villermont and to the dams of stakes-winners Aim and Flying Evelyn, so Groundrush is not short on pedigree.

Zoustar filly Platinum Jubilee won the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes on debut and looked right on track for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic with this solid trial when the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly was asked to get on with the job.

The Chris Waller trained Capitalist Lazzago caught the eye with her third placing in a trial last month and looked very good again going to the line to win narrowly held together.

A $460,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden draft for Woppitt Bloodstock, Lazzago is from good metro winning Pins mare Lake Como, a half-sister to juvenile stakes-winner Taameer, the dam of two juvenile stakes-winners in Khulaasa and Bulbula, the dam of Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Aryaaf.

It’s a family of precocious fast fillies and Lazzago fits the mould.

Widden Stud will offer a half-brother to Lazzago at Magic Millions as Lot 42 and he is by by Epaulette, who is the sire of Khulaasa and Aryaaf.
